About the JRS

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international catholic organization. Our mission is to accompany and serve refugees and forced migrants, as well as to advocate for their rights. The JRS was founded in 1980 as an organisation of the Society of Jesus (better known as “the Jesuits”).

With the support of an international office in Rome, the JRS is operational at national and international levels. In more than 50 countries JRS workers provide support to internally displaced people, refugees in camps, asylum seekers and forced migrants in towns and detention centres.

The JRS activities cover education, temporary help, healthcare, basic needs and social assistance. JRS also advocates for the rights of refugees and migrants.
In Belgium, the JRS is committed to promote hospitality, and to accompany and defend refugees and forced migrants in detention centres and return houses.
