The JRS BELGIUM also takes part in other dialogue- and action-oriented structures:
THE TRANSIT GROUP
The Transit group is a platform gathering ten Belgian organisations advocating for the detainees’ rights and dignity, and whose visitors are officially accredited to visits the closed centres and return-houses. The group’s aim is threefold: providing moral and psychological support to detainees, assuring social and legal aid, watching for and pleading for the conditions of detention and expulsion of those people. The JRS Belgium is part or and contributes to the coordination of Transit since inception.
THE PLATFORM ‘MINORS IN EXIL’
The platform Minors in Exile gathers together 38 French- and Dutch-speaking organisations. It is devoted to the protection and respect of two vulnerable children groups’ fundamental rights: foreign non accompanied minors (MENA) and children of families uncertain to stay in Belgium. JRS Belgium is specifically involved with families living in return houses.
THE PLATFORM ‘JUSTICE FOR ALL’
The platform Justice for all is an association of stakeholders from the Belgian civil society and the legal professions – associations, trade unions, groups – from all around the country. The aim is to promote access to justice for all. JRS BELGIUM has joined in to oppose the reform of the legal aid, which would harm the fundamental rights of the detained foreigners.
INTERNATIONAL DETENTION COALITION
JRS-Belgium is a member of the IDC, a network of more than 300 associations and private individuals in more than 70 countries. The network focuses on the service of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in detention.
